Statement of Online Policies

TO REGISTER FOR SEVERAL OF OUR COURSES, YOU MUST AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING POLICIES

Alpha College of Real Estate has been in business in Virginia for 23 years in the state of Virginia and is approved by the Virginia Department of Professional & Occupational Regulation for the purpose of offering the CompuTaught Virginia Pre-licensing Real Estate Principles and 15 hour Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) course.

HOURS OF OPERATION
Alpha College of Real Estate is open Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm Eastern Standard Time.

Alpha College of Real Estate is closed:

  • New Years Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Veterans Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Day After Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Eve
  • Christmas Day
  • Day After Christmas

NOTICE TO STUDENT
All questions pertaining to registration, refunds, school policy, course content, explanation of state licensing law, final exams (if applicable), and completion certificates should be addressed to the Alpha College of Real Estate. REGISTRATION CANCELLATION POLICY
If a student is experiencing technical difficulties with the performance of a CompuTaught course, they must contact CompuTaught's technical support at 800-743-8703. Alpha College of Real Estate's policy is that we only cancel registrations if CompuTaught's technical support determines that the student is experiencing
irresolvable technical difficulties.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
In order to take this distance education course, your computer must meet the following system requirements:

Minimum System Requirements:

  • PC with 450 MHz Intel Pentium II processor (or equivalent) and later
  • 128 megabytes (MB) of RAM
  • SVGA (800x600) video card, driver, and monitor
  • Microsoft Windows 98/ME/2000*/XP*
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or greater (free download available with course)
  • Internet connection (minimum 56Kbps required, although we highly recommend high speed connection such as DSL, cable or TI)
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.5 or greater (free download available with course) (CompuTaught courses do not support any “Beta” versions of Internet Explorer)
  • Printer (for course documentation and Student Affidavit)
  • Flash Player plug-in (free download available with course)

CD-ROM Version Only:

  • CD-ROM drive
  • 5 MB available hard drive space to install program and at least 7 MB available hard drive space per hour of course work (CD-ROM version only) For example: If you have purchased a 3 hour course and a 6 hour course, then you would need an average of 68 MB of available hard drive space (9 hours x 7 MB = 63MB plus 5MB to install)
  • In order to install and use the CD-ROM courses (if available) on Windows 2000 or
    Windows XP, the User must belong to the Administrators or Power User Groups

REQUIREMENTS FOR COMPLETING THE COURSE
Please refer to the directions on your course home page for specific instructions regarding the completion of your course and the “Introduction” lesson located at the beginning of each course. To complete the course and receive your Completion Certificate, you must successfully complete the following requirements:

  • Complete ALL instructional lessons in the course by answering each question correctly at
    least twice.
  • Return a signed and dated Student Affidavit to Alpha College of Real Estate when the
    course is complete. The Student Affidavit is a signed document from you certifying that
    you have personally completed each assigned lesson of instruction. This student affidavit
    must be returned to Alpha College of Real Estate before you can receive credit for a
    distance learning course. (A “Student Affidavit” link will appear on your course home
    page upon completion of the course. Click on that link to obtain a copy of the Student
    Affidavit).

CD-ROM Students: You MUST upload your course work upon completion of all course
lessons. (Directions on how to upload your course are available on your course home
page (Online courses will be automatically marked as complete when you finish the last
lesson). Please note: It is highly recommended that you upload your course work every
time you exit your course, as this will save any work that may be lost if you experience
computer problems.

COURSE FINAL EXAMINATION
All course work must be complete before taking the final exam; all final exams are proctored and given at Alpha College of Real Estate unless arrangements are made for testing at a different location. Tests are scheduled Monday through Friday. Call Alpha to schedule final exam at least three days before the desired test date. On the day of testing, bring the notarized Student Affidavit, the Product and Customer Service Evaluation form and a Valid Form of Picture Identification. Calculators may be used if they are silent, battery-operated, and do not have a printout capability or alphabetic keyboard. (The school will not provide a calculator; however, each student may bring their own calculator as long as it meets the requirements, as stated.) Students have a maximum of three hours to complete the exam.

All exams must be taken within six months from the date of enrollment. If you fail the first exam you may schedule a second exam no sooner than the next day, as long as the second exam is scheduled within the six month period from the date of enrollment.

The course exam requires a score of 76% or better in order to receive credit for the course. Should you fail twice, you must re-register and repeat the entire course from the beginning before taking the end of course examination again. Please contact Alpha College of Real Estate for details.

Virginia Salesperson Licensing Examination (For Principles of Real Estate Course Only)
After passing the final examination for the Principles course, Alpha College of Real Estate will issue an Education Certificate that certifies the student has successfully completed the Principles course. The student is now eligible to take the licensing exam for the state of Virginia. If the student wishes to take the Virginia state licensing exam the student must complete a PSI registration form. This form can be obtained from Alpha College of Real Estate and will be submitted by Alpha to the testing company.

15 Hour Appraisal USPAP Course
Once a student has passed the course exam an Appraisal Foundation Student Tracking Form will be completed and forwarded to the Appraisal Foundation on behalf of the student. The 15 Hour Appraisal USPAP course has ARELLO certified. The course number is 2058. Your comments about the delivery methods of this course can be sent to www.IDECC.org.

COURSE COMPLETION
All courses must be completed within six months from the date of enrollment. Course completion includes passing a final exam within the same six month period. Each student has 3 months to review the course content after they have completed a course, in order to assist with preparation for state-licensing exam.

COURSE EXPIRATION AND REVIEW
All course lessons on the computer must be completed within 180 days from the date of enrollment (unless individual state law specifies otherwise). Access to the computer lessons will expire at midnight on the 180th day after enrollment. You have 90 days to access and review the course content after you have completed the last lesson in a course.(Regardless of when the course is completed within the 180 days from enrollment).

COURSE EXTENSION POLICY
If you cannot complete your course within the 180 days, then you may purchase a 60 day extension from Alpha College of Real Estate. The 60 day extension period begins from the date your course originally expires. You may purchase up to three extensions per course. It is your responsibility to contact your school coordinator to find out about purchasing an extension. It is recommended that you purchase the extension immediately after the course has expired in order to be able to have the full 60 days of the extension.

CERTIFICATION
Upon completion of a course, each student will receive an Education Certificate. In the event the certificate is lost, a duplicate may be obtained from the Alpha College of Real Estate offices by written request. An administrative fee may be charged for the duplicate.

NON-DISCRIMINATION
Alpha College of Real Estate will not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, national origin, handicap, or familial status in the establishment of fees, entrance qualifications or standards for successful completion of any course.

Technical Support is available Monday - Friday from 9 am to 11 pm EST and on weekends from 12 noon to 4 pm EST. (Holidays are an exception to this schedule. On holidays, the Technical Support hours may change.)

The best and quickest way to address tech support issues is to go to www.mycoursepage.com/support. If you call Technical Support, please be prepared to explain your problem in detail and have access to your computer. In order to effectively troubleshoot your issue, our technicians begin the call by asking you a series of questions regarding your operating environment. We will need to know what type of computer you
are using, the operating system you are using, the version number of your software, etc. Your call may be documented or monitored to help us maintain quality of service standards.

PROCESSING TIMES
After you have completed all the lessons on the computer, you must allow the following times for processing to complete the course and receive your Course Completion Certificate: These times are all estimates:

  • Scheduling the proctored final exam - 3 business days
  • Mailing of exam from proctor to Alpha College of Real Estate - 3 days (estimated)
  • Grading of Exam and issuing Course Completion Certificate - 3 business days
  • Receipt of the Course Completion Certificate by U.S. Mail - 3 days (estimated)

IMPORTANT NOTES
"Issuing" a Course Completion Certificate, means that we will place the Certificate in the U.S. Mail.

The minimum time you should allow between taking the exam and receiving your course completion certificate is approximately 9 business days (depending on mailing time), so PLAN YOUR SCHEDULE ACCORDINGLY!

The proctor cannot fax or email exams, answer sheets or scores to Alpha College of Real Estate and we cannot fax or email course completion certificates to the student. We must receive your signed Student Affidavit before we can issue a Course Completion Certificate.

In the event the certificate is lost, a duplicate may be obtained from the Alpha College of Real Estate (Appraisal) offices by written request. An administrative fee of $5 will be charged for the duplicate and must be included in the written request.
